Pita Jungle is making history in downtown Phoenix, inside the lovingly restored Gold Spot Marketing Center. One of the Valley's first shopping centers, the Gold Spot was originally built in 1925 and is currently on the National Register of Historic Places. The Spanish Colonial and Mission Revival architecture recall the best of a bygone era, and the relaxing, outdoor patio bar gives the place a nice neighborhood feel.

Kamal Mishmish | Currently On Exhibit

Born in Amara, Iraq, Kamal Mishmish is a 24 year old Artist who has lived in Phoenix, AZ since 1996.

Having learned the flute in 7th grade, the guitar in 9th grade, and the piano at 19 years old, music played a large part in Mishmish's artistic upbringing. He always listens to music, particularly Psychedelic Funk musicians such as Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis, while drawing because, in his words, it’s about cooperation and improvisation and working together on the spot and that’s how my art is. It’s all about improvisation and trying to see what new things are possible.
His range of talent is demonstrated through his numerous drawings, paintings and sculptures. Mishmish is inspired by nature, science, music, history, and language and is fascinated by symbolism and culture. His art features fusions of different species of animals and tree-to-animal hybrids because he believes anything in nature can be mixed and it’s still beautiful.

Mishmish uses art and music to learn about the world and him. I’ve always done art for myself, said Mishmish, bbut so many of my friends and family wanted other people to experience it, too. I focused on why people liked my art, which made me become a better artist. I was learning the role of the artist in society.

Mishmish frequently participates in local events including the Firefly Gathering in Flagstaff and Phoenix’s First
Fridays.  He also has artwork in Gallery Glendale at Westgate Entertainment District in Glendale through the end of July.
Opal Arts, a local artist management company, proudly represents Mishmish. For more information about Mishmish, visit www.opalartsaz.com.
