Pita Jungle is making history in downtown Phoenix, inside the lovingly restored Gold Spot Marketing Center. One of the Valley's first shopping centers, the Gold Spot was originally built in 1925 and is currently on the National Register of Historic Places. The Spanish Colonial and Mission Revival architecture recall the best of a bygone era, and the relaxing, outdoor patio bar gives the place a nice neighborhood feel.

Born and raised in downtown Phoenix, Hector Raul Primero’s first home was on 5th Avenue and Portland. He and his mother explored the city by bus, riding to Park Central Mall, shopping for groceries at Gordon’s Market, having lunch at Woolworth’s lunch counter, and watching Spanish films at the Palace West Theater. Inspired by historian Jo Teeuwisse, who combined images of WWll with modern photos taken at the same spots many years later, he began creating his very personal photographic homages to downtown Phoenix’s past and present, using archival photography and his own photographic landscapes.
