Lemons, Landscapes and more...

Priya Drews has always been exhilarated by the vibrancy and expression that color and composition have played in her life. Born and raised in rural Illinois, the luscious deep hues and textures of the changing seasons created wonder and excitement. As a child growing up in the 50's and 60's, color was no longer limited to landscapes, it was unapologetically exploding everywhere in the culture and Priya reveled in the possibilities.

Priya's real artistic education began at the Art Institute of Chicago where exposure to the works of surrealist painter Rene Magritte sparked a long passion for the absurd- visual and otherwise. A BS degree in scene design and lighting for the theater from Illinois State University gave her a strong background in visual perspective, light, color and experience in creating three dimensional solutions for mainstage productions.

At the Baum School of Art in Allentown, Pennsylvania and the Wallingford Center for the Arts outside of Philadelphia, Priya was guided in shaping and expanding her craft creating portraits and still life paintings in oils and pastels. Her artistic skills have been further matured and influenced by southwestern artists Cody DeLong, Larissa Aukon and Betsey Nelson.

Priya has shown her work in a variety of locations in Flagstaff and Sedona since 2011.
