My name is Frederick Hodge; I am originally from central Texas. However, I moved to Phoenix, Arizona from Detroit, Michigan. I specialize in acrylic painting, sketching, and pen and ink drawing. I'm primarily self-taught. I am a graduate of Arizona State University, with a Bachelors of Fine Art Degree, with concentration on painting. Realistic and figurative portraits are what I do best. I have exhibited at a number of art shows and galleries, including some of the First Friday events. Throughout my life, color along with the human form has always fascinated me, both visually and emotionally. Whether it is in painting or drawing, the female form has sometimes been a dominate feature of my work. I have always enjoyed art, viewing it, along with its production. I really enjoy doing sketches, pen and ink drawing and painting. However, for the past 20 years, I fell in love with painting. There is something magical about making the paint do what you want it to do. I still find it astonishing that you can take the three primary colors (red, blue & yellow) and mix them together, to create all the rest of the colors. That is one process that excites me. I love art! I love making art as much as I love looking at other artist’s work. Over the years, my artistic style has gone through stages of evolution. At this time, I am inspired by both Neo Pop and Neo Expressionism. The majority of my work is done using acrylics because I find that medium suits my painting style best. Painting realistic and figurative portraits is what I enjoy most of all. Throughout my life, color along with the human female form has always fascinated me, both visually and emotionally. There is nothing in my life that gives me more joy than art.
