Peggy Wilmore | Currently On Exhibit

I have always lived in cities so when I moved to Arizona twenty years ago there was a surprising connection with the light that reached out to me. Some days it’s the sunset or sunrise, and other times the monsoons or the night scenes I want. Always the light, whether it’s natural or artificial, interplays with the urban setting in visually very exciting ways. I think at times I hope to elevate the mundane or bring attention to moments of astonishing beauty in places we don’t expect it. The inclusion of speed in my work happens on many levels. Capturing that moment with my camera when I see it, but also transferring the energy of traffic has to be urgent. Finding a slick surface like wood paneling has really worked, allowing me to paint quickly and more fluidly.

Peg Wilmore received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the Cooper Union in New York City in 1992. Peg Wilmore also traveled to explore landscape painting in oils. She worked in for while in Central America and Mexico capturing local places and people in impressionistic scenes. In Denver, Colorado, she exhibited and continued her work in local theatre set design.

In 1995 Peg moved to Tucson and earned her Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of Arizona in 2001. In the first year of the program she was hired by a design firm to be a custom decorative painter. A year later, she started her own business in custom decorative painting to support her family and complete her degree. She taught briefly at the University and began selling her work in a gallery in a nearby artist’s town Tubac, Arizona. Currently, Peg Wilmore continues to work on various projects for private and commercial interests, teaches and exhibits regularly in the Tucson and Phoenix areas.
