CAROLYN KING originally from the Chicago area shares a group of images at The Pita Jungle from a series called "Las Damas del Desierto" (The Ladies of the Desert). Each mixed-media piece represents a woman from one of the 6 cultures that have formed Tucson. The exhibit was originally held at the Joel Valdez Library in downtown Tucson to honor people from Mexico, the Tohono O'odham tribe, China, Spain, African Americans, Caucasian settlers and other indigenous people of the region for their contributions related to evolving the Tucson we know & love today. Having lived for over 20 years in the High Desert of Central Mexico and now, having celebrated 20 years in Tucson, Carolyn has become her own version of A Lady of the Desert!
