Three Traits of a Healthy Restaurant

Going out to eat is almost always guaranteed to be a rewarding experience in the taste department, but choosing a restaurant that makes the effort to keep the calories down requires a bit more foresight than the average consumer might be used to. A healthy restaurant sounds like a rather broad description, considering how many ways that phrase can be interpreted. Even so, there are a few universal traits of a healthy restaurant that can be accepted by the general public.

Greens and Reds

A restaurant that incorporates a liberal amount of greens and reds into the components of its menu is a surefire sign of one that cares about the health and calorie consumption of its consumers. Leaving a place like this means you won’t leave with your pants feeling tighter and your waistline expanded.

Chopped fruits and vegetables can be mixed with dressings like olive oil for flavorsome salads. A breading like lavosh or pita bread can be filled with succulent vegetables like eggplant, yellow squash and zucchini. Piles of fresh strawberries, grapes, apples and pineapple merge into a sweet helping of lush, tangy jolts.

Fish

Few animals have the kinds of dietary benefits that fish provide for our systems. The vitamins and nutrients packed into each bite of fish work to reduce blood pressure and cut down on the risks of life-threatening situations like heart attacks and strokes.* Fish makes the perfect alternative to beef and chicken in any situation, either as a standalone dish or as a sandwich or wrap.

Pickle Hummus
Healthy Dips and Spreads

All kinds of sauces are used for dips and spreads in restaurants, but none of them are similar to hummus. This unique spread is created form mashed chickpeas with tahini and olive oil, enhancing chips and bread with an oomph similar to other spreads but with healthier ingredients. Hummus can be consumed in generous amounts before you need to start worrying about calorie consumptions, a point in its favor that other sauces cannot claim.

A healthy restaurant can take on many forms and embody the moniker in any number of ways, but these three traits are hallmarks likely to be found in any health-centered store. That is why we make them three of our primary focuses at Pita Jungle, basing entire starters and entrées around them with authentic Mediterranean ingredients.
